On the train

I'm impatient to get Sibelius on this machine. This is exactly the sort of train situation where it would be good to get some composition/arranging done. I have no manuscript paper because I'm not that organised; I've a two-hour journey ahead of me, no internet access, and nobody is playing annoying loud music through headphones. Still, it should only be a few weeks - then I will install it and start using my travel time more effectively.

Brighton was lovely. [livejournal.com profile] flannelcat and [livejournal.com profile] penguin_worship were, as always, excellent hosts. Bear is an excellent cat. I was lucky to be able to spend quite a lot of time sitting about being lazy. I even left my horn behind - something I'd very rarely do for a week's vacation. Without it sitting around looking neglected at me I didn't feel so guilty for not playing it, though it will be good to get back to it. I was fed well, I got to do some cooking but it didn't become so much so often that it got tiring. I also met some of [livejournal.com profile] flannelcat's extended family, and some random Lodnon goffic types I hadn't actually met before. All good stuff.

This afternoon I met a friend from IRC, who as it turns out I know from my #england days; we nattered and nattered, and I'm quite a bit later heading back to London than I intended; also the trains are being slow. But worth it for the nattering and now I have yet another reason to visit Brighton, which is great.

Back to London, back to the Real World... in which I need to finish wing orders for the Ball before classes start up again, and phone students to confirm/arrange lesson times for the New Year, and take my backpack back to Tumi to be replaced because it's falling apart already and I say that's a defect in workmanship, and chase passport renewal, and a dozen or so other projects of various sizes. In between all of that I'll be spending NYE in the Pembury Tavern, which would be my local if it were, er, local, and trying to meet up with various wonderful people I haven't seen in far too long. Before much longer classes will have started. Rumour has it I'm doing a lot more playing this term, which is good, but will keep me busy. And of course there's YourMusicHouse stuff to keep me busy in any 'spare' time.

And that was last night. The rest of the journey was uneventful but took forever due to broken trains.
