(no subject)

I want one of these. And a lamp that will take a GU10 fitting.

I've heard of those things. Last forever, uses no electricity. Good deal. I watched a program about how one of the designers of the first bulb sets built a small pedal generator with a battery, hooked up one of those bulbs and sent it to small third world villages so that children could do schoolwork after the sun went down and they didn't have to be out harvesting things. First time they had ever been able to reliably see at night. Amazing application.

That would be half the halogen desk/standing/etc lamps made out there then :)

You should be able to pick one of those up anywhere (theres generally two types for desk stands, those and the mini little bulb type. There are also some 12V versions around, but that means they have to fit a transformer somewhere which adds bulk and cost, so those should be rarer.)

If you look around you should be able to pickup a lamp for certainly under a tenner. Hell Ikea, Argos and places like that almost certainly do them.

Most of the ceiling mount/etc stuff takes the 12V spotlamp type though (they have a different fitting, M something odd)
