Children In Need fundraiser - [livejournal.com profile] waka_laka has convinced someone to donate 10p to Children In Need for every unique username comment on that entry. Go to it, folks.

I have been drooling over this lovely boat. Except, um, I don't have £66K, and even if I had I probably couldn't afford a London mooring on top of that (although half the trouble isn't getting the money for the mooring as I could rent one for about what I currently pay in rent - the problem is that there are a limited number of them and there are waiting lists, like for allotments). And, you know, nowhere to put a piano, really. But it's a hell of a lot less out of my reach than any other home in London. For £60K I could buy, um, an underground parking space in Kensington. Yeah. Bah.

these are pretty horns. Link from [livejournal.com profile] flannelcat.

I appear to be procrastinating.

I noticed that there are plans for a houseboat on ebay at £75. Full construction plans.
If you know someone with a small feild they'd let you use, constructing your own is allways a budget option! :)

I don't think it's really a massive generous benefactor making the donation offer, but just some high-school kid, who is probably now going to be paying it off out of his pocket money for the next few years. :(

In which case he's probably learned his lesson. I don't think he's going to owe more than £500, given there are less than 4 hours left.

He might have learned a lesson, but that's still a massive amount of pocket money! How much money did you get in a year when you were 14 to 15?

[identity profile] ewtikins.livejournal.com 2006-11-17 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Roughly $2400 CAD, but I worked for it. I didn't get any pocket money at all at that age, or at any time after I got my first paper route at 11.

Some of this money went toward music lessons and an instrument, some of it I saved for uni, some of it was spending money, some of it was donated to charity.

I was working for it too from 15, but I think I earned less than UKP$500/year. I'd be pretty upset if I tried to help out a charity a bit, but instead ended up oweing a year's earnings to them.

it'd be nice if all the people commenting on that LJ entry would have just made a small donation instead. But most people will jump in when they don't have to make any effort (fiscal or actual).

Which is probably the point she was trying to make.

If nothing else I'm sure it will provide for some interesting class discussions.

This is true.
