I rarely burn anything if I'm at home. Sometimes I'll forget something in the oven but generally I know what my oven does and what it sounds like; ditto the stove. I can't remember the last time I burned something on the stovetop in my own home.

Staying in other people's houses is another matter, though. I'm not used to the way the solid-plate cooker stays hot after being turned down, or to the lack of noise from the gas, and my sense of smell isn't what it could be. I've just ruined a pot of stew.

It was just stew - cheap ingredients, easy to make again, blah blah blah - but I feel really bad about the waste. Maybe I can salvage some of it, but I'll have to wait for it to cool enough before tasting it to find out.

Cat-sitting goes well, as does working. Cats are adorable. Also the internet works properly this time, which is good.
