Gosh, mornings come quickly.

Yesterday was long and tiring but good in many ways.

Academic
Concert this evening. The rehearsal times are annoying - I can lose most of my day to hanging about up at Blackdeath, or I can cart my horn and music around with me half the day. Ordinarily I'd bring a good book and attempt the former. Today I'll be going for the latter option, because I still have lots of tidying to do before [livejournal.com profile] hennes gets here if he wants somewhere to actually sleep. TFL says I can do the journey in 32 minutes but it does rather assume I'll catch trains in the minimum sensible time; I prefer to allow an hour for a journey there and 45 minutes for a journey back, or an hour each way if I'm walking. Walking with my horn for 4 hours is a really good way to screw up my back, though, so I don't think I'll be taking that option.

I need to phone my horn teacher sometime today and be all apologetic and set up a new time.

Creative
I really don't know that there'll be time today. Meep.

Secretarial
So far, it looks like 16th December is going to be the better time for a Geek Scrapheap Challenge/Dead Computer Resurrection Party. Sadly this mean we won't have a [livejournal.com profile] martling to join us, but if all goes well I envision a repeat in the new year anyway. There is a poll here to specify your preference, and that's probably the best place for comments too.

If you want a free guest pass to Canary Wharf LA Fitness, reply here with the relevant details. First come, first-served, and there are only five slots, and if you don't tell me by tomorrow you are SOL.

Wondering
-who else is going to Brighton Below on Saturday night? I really don't know at this point whether I should go. I'm very, very tired, the journey is not going to be wonderful no matter what I do, and a quiet night in might be best. I like the idea, I really do, but... there are limits to what one person can do, and I'm already crashing into mine regularly.
-whether my cashcard for my Canajan bank account will arrive today. I dearly hope so. If not, then this evening I shall have to phone various people and try to sort something out.
-whether I should get this sofa bed for the loft, or go for the more-expensive LYCKSELE or BEDDINGE sofa beds, in which case what I will likely do is get the mattress first and buy the frame later. It really depends how comfortable EXARBY is; if it's horrible, then it's a false economy. Nothing for it, really. I'll have to actually go to IKEA. BEDDINGE is the most practical in some terms as there is an under-bed storage box available, but it's also longer - good as I am tall, bad as I need to take it with me when I move and there is somewhat limited space in the loft itself. LE SIGH. None of these things are ever easy; I may end up completely re-arranging the loft before all is said and done. Never mind. Also, although I currently do have a (single, not suitable for sharing) bed to sleep on, I'm trying to think ahead - I'll be moving after uni, very likely, and unfurnished places tend to be cheaper than furnished. Having something that I can actually sleep on every night, like some of hte better IKEA sofabeds, would be a fairly sound investment, I think.
-there are a few rather popular people on LJ I read now that I didn't a few years ago when LJ was smaller. I always wonder... if I'd added them sooner, before they had such high readership, would they have added me back? I mean, I knew about most of them then, too.
-what is your favourite product for cleaning laptop screens? In reality I'll probably just stop off at Ryman in Blackdeath and grab something there, but I was wondering if any of you have specific preferences.

Wishing
-that I hadn't stayed up quite so late last night eating toast and reading Transmetropolitan. I mean, yay, but... sleep good, yes?
-that there were a magical way to clean hair and body without having to take a shower/bath.
-that my old Litebook could be less noisy. I have no idea why it feels the need to make such a racket. Also, the new ones are brighter. I'm thinking of getting another just because quieter + brighter = more likely to use it.
-that I had access to my Canajan bank account so I could take care of several things that really ought to have been done some time ago. This is beyond not funny, and I am Not Amused. I mean, really. Between the card taking forever to get here (has it been posted yet? last time I called, thinking it had, it hadn't), the bank not bothering to return e-mails about wire transfers, and so on, I've had no access to that account since 31st October. That's over two weeks, and I hate that I owe some people money, I hate that I'm still borrowing someone else's very shiny laptop in order to have a reasonable computer and that the lack of certain software on it means I'm still dependent on the Trinty library to get my work done, I hate that I can't get my horn repaired or get a mattress-topper for my own bed or get a sofabed that isn't painful to sleep on or do a big grocery order for heavy stuff (tinned tomatoes, huge bags of red lentils, that sort of thing - cheap, but heavy to carry home from teh supermarket and worth ordering in bulk), I'd like to get my Christmas shopping out of the way and get my passport renewed and replace some of my falling-apart clothes with non-falling-apart ones and all this costs money, money that I have but cannot currently access although I should be able to. Okay, rant over, but... grah. I know that nobody is holding things up intentionally, and I'm trying to be understanding about it, but it's difficult to stay calm about it from the 'waiting' side of things.

Planning
-breakfast
-shower
-tidying/meet up with [livejournal.com profile] hairyears to give his computer back
-off to Blackdeath to rehearse; I'm going to try to get there early and do a really good warmup.
-banking (cheques to pay in)
-lunch/home (not necessarily in that order)
-more tidying/meet up with [livejournal.com profile] hairyears if it hasn't happened yet.
-supper
-concert:
Thursday 16 November 2006
7pm, Blackheath Halls
Celebration of Shostakovich's Centenary

TCM Symphony Orchestra and Chorus
Including Shostakovich's Festival Overture and Symphony No.10
Conductor:Simon Wright
£8 (£6 concessions)

It's actually festival overture, symphony 10, and also Stravinsky's symphonie of psalms. I'm not playing in shotakovcih 10 but am playing 3rd horn in the other two. Come along if you like.

-meet Hennes (at Isle of Cats)
-go to sleeeeeeeeep

[livejournal.com profile] hairyears needs his computer back this weekend (fair enough as I've been borrowing it for months now!), so I'm basically going to be computerless for a bit. I can just barely get online with my ancient crunching desktop, but the screen hurts my eyes, and any serious browsing/reading is next to impossible. Hopefully I'll be able to get at my own money soon and purchase my very own shiny laptop.

G'luck with the concert tonight! Wish I could be over the other side of the world to go see it!
