I could be wrong here, but I think last night at the Pembury the world shrunk by an order of magnitude...

My favourite small world incidents were discovering [livejournal.com profile] mr_tom in Oriental City with [livejournal.com profile] marnameow and co, and finding out [livejournal.com profile] nou was sharing a house with someone I knew for 5 years at school.

Oh yes indeedy :) It's a shame you got back from teaching so late.

BTW, do you know if Sam, who I was playing scrabble with, has an LJ?

Er, that was rather gendercentric of me, but it did put me off the track when I was trying to work out who your LJ belonged to!

I suppose it does! Odd, I never thought it was supposed to be me... if this is causing confusion and cognitive dissonance, I may consider changing it.

It's ok, mine has purple dreads (to try to make it like the above icon, which is four years old) :)

It always sounds reely exciting at the Pembury. Is it a real pub or is it just a special fantasy land where people are always playing fun games and saying intresting things.

One day I would like to go there but I am worried it might be one of those magic places like Platform 9¾ in Harry Potter where if you do not know what to do you just run slap into a wall. Is there a code phrase to get in?

Yes, it did.

"Mine's a pint, Steve" usually works quite well...

The Pembury is one of those rare places where all the good things come together in the one spot...

It really does exist. (http://www.individualpubs.co.uk/pembury)

Do turn up sometime. :))

"Would you like a drink, Steve?" is also good.

I was going to blame [livejournal.com profile] redcountess, but I think you're Arkady's fault.

So you're on this wretched hive of scum and villainy too, then?

The Charlton Arms seems to serve a similar purpose in Cambridge, allegedly. I`ve never been, yet.

Yes and no... I have a couple friends with journals that I read, and that's the only reason I have an account. I don't have a journal of my own, and I rarely post comments. I'm too busy with real life (read: screwing around on Wikipedia). ;)

Want the world to shrink more? I know you By repute unless I'm much mistaken - you're [livejournal.com profile] williams_dad's friend and colleague, and OKC dweller extraordinaire, aren't you?

Surely you mean the Carlton?

It is (or was) ground zero for the Sinister Greenend Hangers-On.

It does (without its h, as [livejournal.com profile] hairyears commented). Living more or less across the street from it is quite convenient (although not quite so convenient for getting to the Pembury...)
