Link Round-Up

Subscription T-shirts from T-Post.. Every six weeks they send you another t-shirt with a design based on a news story. I like this. The shirts themselves are sweatshop-free.

Principles for Sustainable Tech from the Archdruid Report. Now I want a slide rule!

Health Report transcript - ADHD in girls - from ABC.

[livejournal.com profile] elmyra rants about German social policy.

No Tinfoil Hats for Bees - the Independent made a bit of a muddle of the whole CCD story, and Treehugger points this out.

Fascist America, in 10 easy steps, in the Grauniad. Scary stuff if it's accurate, but I wonder how much of it is? Has anyone at the Grauniad actually read the laws as they are or are they running on hype stories instead? I know I haven't.

Nomad meditation stool. 750 grams. Nice. Shame it's 122 Euros. There is a pattern for making a simpler one, though.

Granite Gear Air Grocery Bag - lovely and lightweight at 40g, and it looks like it holds an awful lot, compared to most fold-up bags.

Apocalypse Now - an article on the Utopia Project, where I'll be spending some time later this year. I hope some of the interpersonal tensions have died down by then, but it's nice to know they aren't all moonies.

Last but not least, a couple of pretties from MAKE:
techie name badge</>
Steampunk computer mouse.

Okay, maybe I don't want to move to Germany if it would make me a 4th class citizen. I am here, but at least less so in the eyes of the law.

On the other hand, if you do ever decide that you want to be a happily married housewife and stay at home to look after your kids, Germany is *that* place to be. ;-)

And it kind of reminds me why I left Germany...

I read the Independant article about bees the day it came out (they had free copies for guests at the hotel I'd stayed at that weekend), and after initially going "onoez!11" I worked out that can't be right as mobiles have been around now since the early 90s and the phenomenon hasn't been noted before (except that I now note it has been, but anyway)

I think the main factor is probably modern bee farming practices (mobile hives etc.), possibly also GM crops.
