That depends entirely on what one wishes to use them for. I don't know of another acceptably small and cheap solution to the 'carrying speakers with me for busking backing tracks' problem, and let's face it, in Tube stations the acoustics are hardly wonderful to begin with.

That's precisely the thing I was thinking of, and the output is weak as hell and very poor/distorted if you push it. Plus they fall off things...

Best surface I've found was a car windscreen.

Busking backing tracks? Roland Cube. One of those Fender things like a tube. Almost anything, really.
