Friday - found out there is a Long Tall Sally in House of Fraser. And they were doing 20% off everything, even the sale items. I ended up leaving with three pairs of trousers, a skirt, and a jacket (which matches one of the pairs of trousers). Um. That was expensive, but my summer wardrobe is nearly sorted. I have jeans that FIT, I have lightweight linen trousers (plus matching jacket) for hot summer days when I haven't shaved my legs, I have a long (properly long!) denim skirt, I have some linen/viscose blend smart trousers for summer concerts. They had linen skirts that matched the trousers and jacket as well, very long, but none of them quite fit. Might go to the Baker Street branch and see if I can find one there, it would be excellent for teaching. I still want a summer dress (but have promised myself I will make one), and a pair of smart sandals, and shorts. Some shirts that don't have holes in them would also be nice but I suspect that better tidying of my room will reveal more of these.
What else? A bluetooth USB dongle so I can get pictures from my phone to my computer without too much coitum circum. I'm happy about this, and my housemate can have his camera back.
Went to visit
flannelcat and
penguin_worship, excellent hosts as always, with lovely lovely
pfy. Had beer. I'm not really a beer drinker so I don't know if it was any good. The garden is nice. Saturday - walked around Brighton a lot. It was windy. Had hot chocolate. It was still windy. Bought little leather pouches, a Spike Milligan book I haven't read yet, failed to buy shorts (checked in the hemp store but they didn't fit), failed to find the market stall with the poi (drat!). It was windy. Went to the flea market but it was shut. It was windy. Bought a lovely 100% wool dark grey Aquascutum winter coat for £1 in a charity shop. It's far too big for me, and anyway I don't wear winter coats without hoods, but I will make it into the Warmest Winter Skirt Evar. Just you wait. Brighton was windy.
Forgot to bring Food For Free and so couldn't identify which seaweed to eat. There was sand but it was imported from Holland for the festival thingum. Brighton Beach is mostly rocks. And slipper limpet shells, whelk egg sacs, and cuttlefish bones. And wind. Did I mention the wind? I like the wind.
Came back, saw
pfy to t'underground, had dinner with
karen2205 and friends, went home, tired but happy. Had nightmares about giant mice. There is something in the chimney that vibrates in the wind and I always have a hell of a time convincing myself it isn't a mouse, even though it sounds nothing like a mouse.
Sunday - teaching, but a few students away for the Bank Holiday, so I went to Camden. Found one pair of shorts - I would like to have two pairs, so that's half the job done. They are a hemp/cotton blend. Nearly bought sandals but they were not big enough, and I'm clumsy so walking around with toes sticking out is a bad idea, plus it looks awful. Also some very beautiful pinkish yarn made from sari silk thread offcuts, I am going to use it to make a shirt, sleeveless or maybe short sleeved. Then more teaching. Last student of the day is really starting to notice things in music and her legato playing has improved so much in a week. Youngest student is very small and managed to pay attention for the entire half hour lesson. I think she has her brother's concentration skills but is actually smarter than he is, she picks things up more quickly than he did at a year older. Supportive parents too. W00t.
Came up to Enfield since
hairyears has been away all weekend and got back last night. The trains were absolutely fucked but I made it. If I'd realised I might have just gone home, but I'm glad I got here.
Pyrogi for supper, lovely sleep, Kedgeree for breakfast, and soon I'll be up and about and doing gardening. Yes. Really. Gardening and practising and tidying are the order of the day. I need a bath but I'll wait until after the gardening since I'm going to get absolutely filthy.
