Aug. 19th, 2006 09:37 amSlow start to the day. Decided to sleep in just to see what would happen, and I was still up at 06.30. Didn't do my morning pages(!), had some breakfast, fell asleep on the sofa, reading, woke up.
Need to leave to go see
ksta in a few minutes; I will be recording Stuff to hopefully send off on a CD for entering a competition. Not sure how it will go as despite my efforts I have been unable to procure an accompanist and didn't really prepare a lot of unaccompanied stuff, so I'm going to be winging it a bit. And I really ought to have done a good warm-up this morning! But will start slowly once I get there. And I guess I could do some of my writing on the train, since I only really have to change once. After that it will be lunch in town with
hairyears, after that I'll come back and hang up my laundry (indoors so it doesn't get rained on, today looks changeable again), then off to see
ali_anarres, along with
pfy and probably nearly the rest of the known universe. I was going to bake a cake, but I don't know if I'll have time, and I'm out of cocoa powder which is a small-scale disaster in and of itself.
If you're all very lucky I might put some of this music up on the webpage so you can hear me playing. I might wait until I'm feeling less fragile to expose myself like that, though.
I have made myself clean and re-purpled my hair some (but probably missed some bits and definitely didn't bleach), and I am ITCHY. I wish water didn't make me itch (yes, it is the water, not the dye, this happens when I have a shower normally). Staying in too long seems to be part of the problem, and the water being too hot makes things worse, but putting on loads of moisturiser afterward doesn't make the itching go away particularly faster than not doing so. Blah. When I am a grown-up I will get a whole-house water filter so that I do not have to bathe in chlorine, and maybe that will help. Or maybe a natural swimming pond, those are neat. In the meantime I think I maybe need to make sure if I have a bath it's before bed and then put on something like almond oil or olive oil; the bath will have to be before bed because natural oils without stuff in them take a while to soak into the skin, and might stain clothing (but I don't give a rat's ass about my sheets smelling of almonds).
Need to do laundry, need to plant out the thyme that I bought at the supermarket because it'll never survive in that pot, need to find microphones and shit and need to get GON. I'll put in laundry and find microphones before leaving, and do the thyme later in the afternoon when I'm home.
Going to search for the minidisc recorder, and one of the things I'm going to do this year is record myself practising a lot more than I currently do. Again, this should be easy enough if I have a locker at Trinity, because I can leave the appropriate kit in there. Also, one of my piano teachers used to record our pieces whenever we finished one to performance standard; I need to be doing this for myself, so I have a record of things I've played (so when the time comes for me to send off a CD I can just pick stuff that I already have!), and I really ought to be doing it for my students as well. It's a wonderful idea.
And I should probably make some Suzuki-style recordings of the exam pieces, burn them to CD, and have the students listen to them. But doing this stuff on my current computer will be excruciating, and the ones at Trinity are a PITA in a lot of ways because of the time limit on using them - high-quality audio should be burned at a very slow speed, ideally, and this can take longer than is sane, and lots of the machines there have no way of listening to a minidisc anyway. More justification for me to buy a shiny Mac when I have funds available. Shiny. Mac. Shiny. Sitting on the fence about whether to get a 13" one that is way the easy to transport or a 15" one that is a bit harder to transport but has a bit more shiny in it. I suspect that the 17" would be overkill and nearly impossible for me to lug around in conjunction with all my other crap, so that's probably out, even though OMFG gorgeous beautiful screen. Naw, I'll wait on that and buy a hugeass screen in a few years when I can afford to replace the desktop, if I decide I still want separate desktop and laptop machines (can be useful if I'm doing lots of stuff with keyboard hooked up etc).
I go do things now.
Someone remind me to re-post the teaching reminder on Sunday night or Monday (except I won't have internet on Monday...) so that I can catch the people who only LJ during the week with it. I shoudl also go back and follow-up previous mentions of interest in lessons, will see how time goes.
