Just came back from new student. Lovely kid. Very smart... a bit shy (what is it with shy, smart kids?). His previous teacher didn't teach him how to count for himself. Graah. She also didn't teach him about repetition and muscle memory and that there is a difference between knowing in your head what you should play, and being able to play it, for sure.

I always thought those things were standard...that any teacher would teach them. I guess I have just known them so long that they seem like common sense to me now. There is a lot more to teaching piano than just teaching the musical stuff - you also have to teach the students how to learn.

In other news, I have an audition for the London Underground Busking Scheme, next Wednesday, 12.20pm, Canary Wharf. I'm excited. I think I'm going to be practising my busking stuff rather a lot between now and then, and also trying to make my way down there (maybe tomorrow morning? I was going to do photographs to put stuff on eBay tomorrow...but going to Bath this weekend to busk would be a Good Thing, which knocks Friday out) to check out the acoustics. I hope it is the sort of big echo-ey hall that makes French horn sound like heaven. What should I play for ten minutes? The audition is only ten minutes. Argh. Help help help.

I managed to get my laundry in this morning BEFORE it got rained on. Yay me.

I suggested an idea for next season's programme and my boss liked it. Yay me.

I've just won a polystyrene display head from eBay. This will greatly aid in the display and photography of various hair gimmicks. Go me.

I went to the gym this morning - first time in ages - and did my whole workout plus a swim. It was a lot harder than I wanted it to be, but I struggled through and felt REALLY good afterwards. Go me.

I'm all tired now, but in a good way. I'm going to have some supper, tidy up a bit (emptied the kitchen bin and my room bin and stuff but have yet to take the bin out! must do that or they will not take the garbage away, and the bin is nearly full!), practise, do a schedule for tomorrow, and try to plan some stuff for when my dad is here visiting.

What is the most sensible way to get to Canary Wharf from Hendon Central? Is there a sensible way? Looks like taking the Bank branch to London Bridge and then changing for the Jubilee line. I need to time the journey anyway so I do not end up either terribly late or terribly early next week.

Addendum: Have now eaten garlic bread courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] ali_anarres. Yay.

"Looks like taking the Bank branch to London Bridge and then changing for the Jubilee line,"

That's about it.
