Aug. 24th, 2006 09:18 amSo, I have this dress. I've tried twice now to sell it on eBay with no joy. I know the pictures load awfully slowly but I suspect the problem is that there are loads of dresses out there and people just aren't that interested.
I'm now not so sure what to do with it. It seems a shame to cut it up for scraps; although a pair of hairfalls made from vintage silk could be quite a nice thing there is the risk they may not sell, and it would be a lot of sewing to make that many fabric strips without rough edges (although not too bad with a machine). I don't think I have much chance of making the skirt half of it fit me, although it's worth further inspection - but when do I wear cream? I could try to dye it purple I guess, which would hide the stains as well, but again... it seems a shame. Someone worked hard to put the thing together and taking it apart or altering it drastically seems wrong, somehow, although I wouldn't object to someone else trying to dye it in order to wear it (the lace probably won't come out right, though, trimming is annoying that way).
Antiques Roadshow won't be back in London in 2006, so I've missed the boat on that. And I'm not sure they really do clothing anyway.
I don't like having this lovely dress just taking up space in my closet. It's not going to fit me again, so it's got to go. Helf?

It is a lovely dress, but my guess why there isn't much interest is because when it comes to wedding gowns- people get opinionated about finding one that matches that dream gown in their head. heh.

Date: 2006-08-24 12:46 pm (UTC)It's a UK size 12 - there's a chance it would fit me, so if you like I'll bring a decent camera with me on Tuesday and after my lesson, I could model it for you so you can get some good shots to relist it with. For a dress that style, it really needs to be worn to show it off properly - you can't get a decent idea of how it hangs when it's hanging on a hanger.
