That was a little worrying.

I went out intending to run/jog. When I run/jog I walk for a good while first until I feel really warmed up, because it seems to be the best way of not hurting myself. It doesn't usually take 35 minutes, though... still, I put that down to general tiredness and not having moved around much yet today.

And when I run/jog, I go slowly, and I only keep going until I think it would start feeling bad if I ran for another minute or two. I don't run right until I feel bad, because, um, that's a really good way for me to make sure I don't run again for a while, which isn't what I want.

In May or June when I started running after not having run for several years, I generally managed to run (read: jog) for about 10 minutes. Today I managed 5 minutes. Okay, I'm overtired. Whatever. I wasn't too out of breath but it all seemed to be an awful lot of effort and my ankles were complaining a bit.

So I decided to walk for 60 breaths and then run for another while, and see what happened. Sure enough, after 60 breaths of brisk walking, I felt like I'd probably be able to run for another 5 or 10 minutes, so I started again. And about 50 breaths into it my breathing was making this horrible wheezing noise and I couldn't quite seem to get enough air into my lungs, really fill them properly. I wasn't dizzy or anything but I know what a full breath feels like and I was getting maybe half that. So for the next 10 breaths I tried to really relax, really concentrate on breathing properly while running, and it was still not working.

So I moved back to walking, and it was another 5 minutes before my breathing was really comfortable, and even now (20 minutes later) if I try to take a deep breath I get this weird noise from my chest like the air is 'catching' on something, and it hurts a little as if there are tight muscles or something.

I hope I'm jsut getting a cold or there's something nasty in the air today (though I don't smell anything from Tate & Lyle, the usual culprits). If this starts happening regularly I will be seeing a doctor. I play a wind instrument, ffs, and I need my breathing to be reliable (oh, and the whole staying alive thing is nice too).
