I arrrrre tired.

Tried the new breakfast today, ahoy! Will see if it keeps my tummy full until lunchtime. It was tasty, if a bit heavy on walnuts; will add some almonds when the container gets a little more empty. And maybe some brazils for the selenium and pecans for the yum.

Breakfast mix contains:
walnuts
hazelnuts
cashew nuts
sunflower seeds
pumpkin seeds
poppy seeds
sesame seeds
linseeds
shelled hemp seeds
oat flakes
ground almonds that I had already

This is all in a tub in my refrigerator to stop anything going rancid. I bought broken mixed nuts and broke them up some more in the mortar and pestle; this was very easy to do. And it's very easy to grab a container of it when I'm staying with someone else, rather than having to find out whether they have appropriate breakfast protein for me to eat. Yes, it's pretty high in fat - nuts are like that - but it's mostly the monounsaturated and polyunsaturated really astoundingly healthy fat with anti-inflammatory properties and all sorts of good things in that the brain is made out of (your brain cell membranes are made out of omega-3. IF you don't eat enough of it, your body will make your brain out of something else, and it won't work as well), and besides if it keeps me full until lunch then the high calories won't much matter because I won't end up having ridiculous snacks. I might still snack on some fruit or veg mid-morning, especially on days when I'll be having a late lunch, but that's okay. What I don't want is the OMG-starving-let's-get-muffins-from-the-caf reflex.

Along with some of the mix I had some mulberries (from the freezer; took them out last night when I was making my breakfast and lunch) and half a white-flesh nectarine (French, so not toooo too heavy on food miles). Poured milk on top of it and voila! I was going to add cinnamon as well but forgot. It would also be good with things like applesauce (which I still have from last year and need to use up!) and yoghurt or any frozen berries, really. Hope to forage more next year so I have a better supply of such things. And I guess dried fruit would be nice, but I think then I'll want to put the milk on the night before.

I couldn't find any dried cranberries or blueberries that don't have added sugar. I don't mind adding a bit of vegetable oil to stop them sticking together, but if there's going to be added sugar I want to add it myself, damnit! Next year I must gather all the Saskatoon berries in Lodnon and dry them.

And lunch today was made last night, and consists of a tortilla wrap with cottage cheese and tomato and oregano, carrot and beetroot salad (contains one large carrot and about 100g cooked beetroot), and fruit salad which has half a bananana, half a nectarine, a fig, and a small orange. And cinnamon. And I've packed a small container (3-4 tbsps?) of Greek yoghurt to use as dressing for both the fruit salad and the carrot and beetroot salad. I daresay that's a pretty healthy lunch. And I made enough fruit salad that I can have it a few more days this week.

In less yummy news, I still have a cold, with all the attendant head-explodey feeling, tinnitus, and generalised feelings of blah. Must remember to drink extra water.

Sounds like the patent [livejournal.com profile] fjm breakfast, though with added oatflakes - I'm sure it will do you a power of good. Yarrrr!

Hmmm - methinks a pirate userpic should have been prepared for today, but too late now.
