ewtAh, the Pembury Tavern. Not as empty as it was when I got here last week. And I've noticed, they serve Fentiman's soft drinks, which I'm very happy about. I saw the orange one and the lemonade and they have the ginger beer, I didn't ask about the cola, dandelion and burdock, or shandy. I've never actually had shandy before.
I love this pub. I want to take it home with me. I've been here lots of tims and I still love it. If I didn't have to get to Trinty most days (at least in theory!), I would move to Hackney to be closer to this pub... anything close enough to be called my 'local' is smoky.
Today, I also notice artwork on the walls. Eight-inch acrylic abstract paintings, unframed, by Mads Robinson. £14 each it looks like. One of them reminds me of yarn I'm making a scarf out of right now. I won't be in a position to buy artwork for my walls for quite some time, but wanted to give a heads-up to those of you reading who might have your own wall-hanging artwork to exhibit - presumably,![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
timeplease is interested in hearing from you. Who knows, I might even put some things up myself. The pub is smoke-free, after all, and while the lighting isn't amazing it could turn out to be a good place to display, say, hairfalls.
I'm not going on about this pub just as a favour to the landlord or anything like that. I really do think it is a wonderful place to spend time. And I know I didn't look very hard, but I've been in London for more than six years, and this is the only pub I've found that I'd actually invite people to. Maybe I just have high standards.
So, what else? I'm making a big, chunky winter scarf out of black wool with pink bits through it. This is a bit silly as I already have lots of winter scarves. I tend to favour the silk ones as they are lightweight and fold up very small indeed, so making a big, chunky scarf is even less reasonable. But now I've started it seems silly to stop. Um. Does anyone want a big, chunky black scarf with pink bits in? I'll post a picture when it's done. £15 or so to cover my yarnhabit costs would be awfully nice.

Apple have updated their laptops. Good job I didn't buy one yet, then, isn't it? Now I get even more shiny for my money. Yay!
I ate a non-protein breakfast and a very late lunch today, and though I should be fine by now I have a splitting headache that just isn't shifting. Bah. Perhaps time for the painkillers.
I had my arm poked and prodded by a consultant rheumatologist (the parent of one of my students) on Sunday night. The bad news is that yes, it will take quite some time to heal, although so far it's doing well. The good news is that I haven't damaged any of the hard bits - bones and so on - just soft tissues. I'm allowed to play horn, write, and make normal use of the arm as much as I like but should stop if the pain gets bad enough to require painkillers (which should be ibuprofen). It will heal faster if I rest it, but I won't do it any lasting damage by using it. This is a great relief to know, as it's extremely difficult to simply stop using the dominant hand! I mustn't fall on it while the ligaments are unhappy and weak, though - another fall at the moment could damage the joint badly. So my Aikido is going to be severely restricted for a while yet, which is disappointing.
There is a man at the next table who has put sticky labels on his eyelids and is batting his eyelashes. Clearly I am among my own kind, here. But I really wish they sold hot chocolate.
