This is actually scarily real, since this is more or less what will happen to me this weekend.
No idea, to be honest. I don't know London well enough for really interesting places. But considering said friend comes from afar, and considering the current situation with said friend, just having a chance to chat IRL is more valuable than any rushed 'showing around'. So probably we'd end up in 'De Hems'. :o)
If I were coming to England, I'd want to go pubbing. Real English locally-brewed ales... mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. :)
If someone were coming to visit me here in Richmond, VA, US, I'd take them to the Capital Ale House (http://www.capitalalehouse.com/). Of course, this assumes that they like beer. But if they don't, why would I be friends with them anyway?
If we have a car, I would take them up to the tops to show them the views of the hills. I would then take them up to Howarth and show them some of the Bronte country. After that a quick visit to Hardcastle Craggs. (National Trust forrest)
If we didn't have a car, I would show them the centre of Hebden Bridge, and maybe go on the canal boat trip. I would show them the hidden art in the town and the strange 4 storey houses built into the rock face. :)
