What things (ie objects, material possessions - not qualities like honesty or beauty) do you currently own that you in all honesty would not sell if someone seriously offered you £1 million for? Why?

What objects would you like to acquire which you believe would attain this status in your life?

Why?

My grandad's piano. It means the world to me...on it I plunked out my first few notes and wrote my first 'composition'...

Just before he died it hurt him to play it as the arthritis in his fingers was so bad but he still insisted in accompanying me in my flute exams :(

The only things I own which are, in my view, irreplaceable are my cat and my rats. I bred most of my rats myself, and they are too precious to me. Tom has been with me for many years and been a great source of comfort to me. I could never part with him.

As for inanimate objects, any of them could be replaced. I don't own anything particularly unique. Sure, I love my fur coat, my musical instruments - and I think I'd go mad without Servalan and the link she provides to the outside world. But all these things can be replaced. They are not unique.

There are few things that I *would* sell. I mean, for most of what I own, a million would simply be stupid. I'd not want to take that kind of money if it didn't make sense somehow, and I am not that keen on being that rich (though owning a house would be nice...)

That said, I might sell anything that doesn't have memories of persons attached to it if I needed the money. But to sell something that was a gift of a loved one, or a childhood memory... No, I'd not do that. Can't name anything specific though. But it'd feel wrong to sell such a thing, to the point that I'd likely not even sell if I'd get rid of it anyway. I think.

Are these things replaceable? I mean if someone said one million pounds for all your guitars but you're not allowed to possess any musical instruments of any kind, that wouldn't be good. But I could probably find a new guitar to love.

Otherwise, peeople. You can't have my fiends, not even for lots of cash.

Beyond that, if someone tooks away all my CDs and films and photos and crap, it would all still be in my head, or have influenced my personality somehow. I don't travel light, but if it all went away and I couldn't afford to replace it, I would be happy with less stuff. That's what libraries are for. Not a licence to come round to my house and take what you like however! But you could borrow stuff.

Oh and I'd better say the cats, or Marna will get me :-)

I wouldn't sell my cats, nor any of my family, obviously.

but nearly anything else would be up for grabs, though some things I might have to debate a bit beforehand. Don't know if I'd want to sell my computer, well, at least not until I have all the stuff I need off of it... lol.

The picture Lillith drew of me after I shouted at her for throwing food on the floor - it has a big evil monster face and is waving its arms like a spastic.

A rather odd looking table my parents friend made for them in the 70s out of metal tubing that i rescued when they were throwing it away.

I ould say my signed Daisy Chainsaw album, but i lost it a long time ago :< *mourns*

I am getting rather fond of my sofa, too. Give it a couple of years.

To be honest, though, i'e noticed when i move house that things i THINK mean a lot to me, actually mean less to me than the effort of packing hem up, which is a bit sad. I'm not hugely a things person (although i do seem to accumulate a lot of them)

Friends, family (Selling people is wrong! Of course, I don't own them either so they probably don't count.), a lot of my photos, letters I have received from good friends, my diaries (such that I have), a few of my books, my grandfather's hat, my nanna's ring, a couple of teddy bears I have had all my life including ones that my nan and cousin made for me, some of the gifts people have given me that mean a lot, my degree notes and notebooks from my current work.

I wouldn't sell these because they can't be replaced and they are very important to me.

Things I would like to acquire... that is harder. I don't think things that you set out to acquire could attain this status automatically? Oh, the artwork I did at GCSE that got left at the school because it was too big to move and keep. Can't think of anything else off the top of my head.

About the only thing beside my pets (that I don't class as material posessions), that would fit under this category is an audio recording that my father made of me singing and talking with him and Mum when I was three years old. When I was 17/18 and didn't know any better, I was desperate for a tape to tape some punk stuff and taped over it :-(

I don't care much for material possessions. For €1mln you can have any item I own: take your pick, it's yours. I'm sure the money will buy me a replacement.

To be clear: I don't consider pets or people items (not that I have any pets or people).

I have moved so many times, lost so much stuff or had to leave it behind, that I dont get attached to material things that much anymore. I wish I had gotten a million pounds for the few things I have really cherished that I have lost at some point or another.
As of now all my childhood mementos, gramma's inheritance stuff, pictures, an ancient children's book that was my favorite story (that used to belong to my mom), my motorcycle leather jacket with the danish flag, my collection of early century medical books... etc etc etc is all in boxes in Venezuela, I dont think I will ever get them back- And my son asked today for his Elmo... that makes me want to cry, he wants it. I bought it for him when he was 9 months old. Its somewhere in Venezuela, I dont know if his dad has it or his dad's mom has it... *sighs*

Like others, I don't consider my Bettiecat a possession, she's a life partner.

Probably, if anything, my writings. That's about the only thing I 'own' that is irreplaceable.

I should would like to go through my collection of material goods and cut it down significantly - CDs and books and boxes of 'crap' that I've been carrying around with me but that I'm not going to look at or use. It's all on the list of things to do, but I'm stuck in the mindset of "this took me a long time to acquire, it'll take me a long time to redistribute" - ignoring the fact that what's taking the most time is the procrastination of getting started.

The things that I wouldn't sell are smallish things with sentimental value. I have a little stuffed dog named Strawberry Dog, my Nijn that Tijn gave me, my 2 rings (one that Tijn gave me and one with our names engraved on it), and my lantern that Josh made me. That's all I can think off offhand. The rest of my stuff I'm not terribly attatched to. Although, I seem to be pack-ratish.

If I needed the money, nothing I guess. I'm not *that* attached to things. Ive lived without just about everything at various times for months at a time, but things Id probably choose to keep if I was financially comfortable (etc) would be my acorn electron, my original pair of glasses, and quite possibly the ones I have on now. Oh. and a decent pair of boots and a coat (not that I couldn't buy those...) All the rest of the junk I have around that I horde can disappear. But if I had to let it all go then it wouldn't be missed too much.

I have very little stuff that I would not sell for the right price, but most of it is replaceable. Things, which I would not sell, are gifts from dear friends or heritage pieces, my old teddy bear (even though it is falling apart), the small puppet blanket made by my fathers father (long dead now), my paper dairy, my photo albums...

I have seen people mentioning pets. I would not sell them, but in all honesty I do not think that I own pets, if anything, our cats may own me.

There are plenty of things which I would buy with £1.000.000, but I do not expect those things to acquire any special status and those things which I would not sell can not be bought with money.

My leather biker jacket with the Sepultura painting on the back, because it reminds me of my childhood and stuff and I no longer know the guy who painted it. Haven't seen him for years. All the other material things I own (corsets, shoes etc), I could just buy new ones if I sold them.

Oh - my Alice in Chains Unplugged CD. My boyfriend let me keep it when we split up. A new one just wouldn't be the same.
