I have a box from Canada, full of things I couldn't quite get into my suitcase when I came back this summer.

I have some sweaters my aunt made. They're far too big, but I can alter them, or just accept their huge-oversized-sweatery goodness.

I have a warm black skirt bought in a second-hand shop this summer. I've been wanting it lately, with the "colder" weather, and I am very glad it is here.

I have crackers. I have Stoned Wheat Thins, and I have some Premium Plus soup crackers. Can't get soup crackers here. I have Red Rose tea, which is good because I'm nearly out. There are some other bits and pieces as well; CDs, a USB flashlight thing, ornaments, razor refills. A sweater [livejournal.com profile] lynnyn's mother made for me when I was small, that I was sure I'd unravelled and added to my huge blanket, but I guess I didn't. Maybe I will make a scarf. I don't have any close friends that have children the right age for it, I'm not going to keep it around until I have kids, and I don't want it going to just anyone. And you can never have too many scarves...

One of my mum's tee shirts was in the box, too. It has dog hairs on it, from Madden, and it smells of Mother and Home and Safe and it made me cry, because my mum sent me a hug.

I miss you, Mum. I miss all my family. I love my life in London, and it's as much home to me as anywhere is, in lots of ways, but don't think for a moment that I don't miss all of you.

----

We have the box for number 53, too, because they weren't home. It will be interesting to meet more of our neighbours.

Glad your box finally arrived, although it really got there in good time considering I sent it surface. Didn't mean to make you cry! However, we miss you too and think about you all the time. Very proud!! (puffing out my chest and flapping my wings). T'other box will be mailed this weekend - promise! It will sort of be a Christmas box! It tried to snow here on Thursday last, it actually left some slush on my car, but mostly the big, white flakes were flying around and not sticking to the ground. Today it is raining and so far the fall has been very mild, completely opposite to Saskatchewan and the rest of the Prairies as I am sure you have heard from Papa ewt. Gotta go - oxo oxo Mum

What are soup crackers like? They sound like something that I might like. Are they makeable or only buyable?

They are only buyable, or I've never seen any recipe for them and don't really know how one would go about making them.

They are also known as saltines or saltine crackers.

Possibly after I stop being stupidly busy I should come visit you, and bring some with me.

You're always welcome to visit! What kind of soup are they good with?

I like them with cream of mushroom and cream of tomato soups, but they are also good with other types of soup.

I have some good tomato soup recipes, but I still need to come up with a good cream-of mushroom one. I'm thinking wholegrain mustard and creme fraiche should be involved.

My cream of mushroom soup recipe involves, um, sauteeing chopped-up mushrooms with butter and garlic and black pepper and a bit of nutmeg. And then dumping disgusting amounts of double cream in the pan and making it warm. It's a little rich for many people's tastes, unsurprisingly, and I don't have it very often.

The mushrooms usually don't distributed themselves very well through the soup this way, though.

When I was small, cream of mushroom soup meant the Campbell's just-add-milk sort.
