that in stoning
a random, lucky missile
crushes the skull
early in the game.
The process is more deliberate.
After the pit is dug
and the sinner fastened there,
stones are hurled
fastidiously--
at the ankles, the knees
and up, up to the offending
thighs,
to the waist, breast
and shoulders. The neck
is encircled next.
Finally the pit full,
face and breath are obliterated.
