Tribal timesharing, anyone? This could be an interesting way to run a technohippiecommune.

Yesterday I assembled one (cheap, crap) rose arch and started the potato stack (finally!). Tried out my new garden fork and it is good. The soil is in better condition than I'd thought, that and the presence of the remains of a watering system suggest that it has been used as a vegetable bed before. I don't think I'm going to use the watering system as it was intended, as I lack the wherewithal and probably some of the tools to fix it all up and hook it up to some sort of pressurised system. I will probably put bits of hose into the ground with funnels on top so I can water under the soil easily, though.

I plan to start the elderflower champagne on Saturday. This means I need bottles Very Soon. Monday would be good.

Today I have mostly procrastinated. Got a prescription filled, and bought shorts for summer, both of which needed doing so I haven't been a complete slacker, but still, it shouldn't have taken teh better part of a day to do this. The only summer shopping left is to get sandals of some sort, and I might try to build my own out of a cheap nasty pair that came free with a rubbish magazine. I want a summer dress too but I keep promising myself I will MAKE that. I have a sewing machine and everything. Oh, I also acquired a flannel (that's brushed cotton, for all you UK folks, not towelling) nightdress from which to make menstrual pads, since I've lost/destroyed all my old ones and I'm not getting on with the MoonCup as well as I used to (no idea why but it seems to make my cramps worse; maybe because I'm heavier now and there is more pressure, or something? No idea.), and I don't really like using icky throw-away paper things when there are environmentally friendly alternatives. Second-hand shops are great.

Discovered that the Schick Quattro quadruple-blade razors I got in Canadia are available here under the Wilkinson brand. They even take the same refills. Happiness. Some people seem to think that a quadruple-blade razor is overkill, but personally I have had good results with them.

Yesterday's headache is still around but not as bad as it was yesterday. Maybe I did hit my head on something and I just don't remember it. Grah to that.

I still need to:
-hang out my washing
-make a zillion phonecalls (students to re-arrange some of this Sunday's teaching, Dartington to talk about going there, accompanist to arrange rehearsal sometime next week, blah blah blah).
-work on some written assignments
-practise lots
-iron Aikido kit
-go to Aikido

so I guess I'd best get going now...

This is yet another gratuitous icon post.

I use Wilkinson Sword Quattro blades (on the occasions I get round to shaving) and they work well for me, too.

Want anything from Asda?

Nothing I can think of at the moment. Or nothing justifiable, anyway. And I think kittens are probably out of the question.

*hugs*

Heh, just for information: a face flannel is made of towelling, the material flannel is not, even if you are British. :) Dictionary says this (http://www.chambersharrap.co.uk/chambers/chref/chref.py/main?query=flannel&title=21st) but I'm with you on it being brushed cotton.

In the UK flannel is suiting. I'd say it was 'school uniform ish'. You do get references to flannel trousers in 20's/30's books (think Woodhouse ish).

Brushed cotton is also known as flannellete (think brushed cotton sheets).

So, is the champagne to go in the Grolsch swing-tops? :o)

I'm planning to make mead somewhat later in the year. I think there's enough storage space in the kitchen to put up a demijohn or two. Should be interesting - and hopefully it works out! Would save me a lot of money and fruitless searching.

Yes. It can also go in glass bottles with metal screw-on lids, like the ones sparkling water sometimes comes in. I won't need to bottle it until Tuesday-ish if I start it on Saturday. I think [livejournal.com profile] pfy also wants to make elderflower champagne.

I know [livejournal.com profile] exmoor_cat makes some very fine mead. Might be worth seeing if he'll barter some if you don't get around to making your own.

I left an empty bottle in the kitchen, although it didn't originally contain sparkling stuff it does have a screw-top lid.

I have some non-alcoholic drinks ordered for Saturday's dinner party, and I think they come in such bottles - though they're of the order of a litre, rather than the smallish ones you brought me elderflower champagne and hawthorne vodka in a few months ago (I haven't got those ones any more, unfortunately). If they're any use, then I can send them to [livejournal.com profile] pfy via [livejournal.com profile] mirrorshard? He'll be here on Saturday.

Middle Farm is the place to go for mead. [livejournal.com profile] therealdrhyde goes there regularly. [livejournal.com profile] rjw1 went with him at the start of the week and brought me mead (and cider and apple juice). I can let you know the next time a trip is planned, if you like?

Cor! Yah! I'm happy to refund any costs made (or contribute or whatever). I'd offer trade, but I haven't got much to trade so I'll stick with good old-fashioned money.

See if they can beat Moniack. :o)

Sustainable apart from flying to the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

Oh, you mean the tribal timeshare thing. Yes.

I was thinking it would be neat to do something more locally. Although it must be said that if people are going to fly to the middle of the Pacific anyway (and lots of them are), there are worse ways to do it.

Their method of countering this is to make whatever they consider to be an appropriate donation per flight to alt-energy research groups. It doesn't change the actual emissions, but at least they did consider the impact of the flights.

I also have a (cheap, crap) rose arch. It was that horrible that we're sending it back for a refund and going to make a wooden one instead.

Mooncups making things worse: I've found that if I pull it a bit far when I'm getting the fit right it sets up a bit much of a vacuum behind it, which makes cramps worse, and also makes it more difficult to get out again without serious vote of no confidence in the present government being registered by cervix.

The Pacific island looks fun, except for the part where it's timeshares, which to me would hold a bit of a risk of people not feeling linked with it enough to e.g. not leave their cigarette ends lying about on the beach.

Monday bad, unless you happen to be in Peckham. Other times, good. Friday particularly so.
