£237.50 - that's the least amount of money I can pay to go to Dartington for a week. I really ought to have been thinking about this earlier in the year. Drat. Have to print out the form and send it off tomorrow to get even that much bursary, else it will cost £475, which is just really unmanageable.

It's a good thing I only have exams until 12th June this year. I might actually get some good busking in.

Aikido summer school the week before that, in Somerset, so I'll be spending two weeks away. Expensive - two weeks of rent I'll be paying without living here, two weeks without earning any money - but both weeks well, well worth it. Just... ouch.

At least Aikido will only cost around £100, but I need to buy (or have made, or possibly make but I think they are Too Hard for me just yet and anyway I still haven't made a tailor's dummy) a hakama before then, which will probably set me back about £70. This isn't going to be trivial, because a) Ki-Aikido hakama are longer than the sort usually worn for Kendo etc. b) women's hakama are generally longer than men's and have various other differences as well and c) I'm six feet tall, taller than most women by quite a way. I'm likely to have difficulty finding a ready-made one; likely I'll have to have one made to my measurements. There is a pattern here but I don't know how long it will take to arrive, or how much time I'll have to sew. Rough measurement suggests I'll need one that's 46 inches from waist to ankle, which is longer than these guys make, and I probably am not big enough around the middle for their "extra large" to fit me. Not to mention theirs are unisex so the waist-to-hip ratio will be all wrong anyway. No, Long Tall Sally do not make hakama.

ARGH.

Everything costs too much. Please can I have a money tree?

Have e-mailed , I saw a stall of hers at Electric Ballroom in Camden and I'm wondering if she'd sell some of my falls on consignment. I figure I could let her have some of the ones I have in stock now, and if it works out well for both of us maybe I'll start making them again.

Hey, it's a start.
