Last exam today.

Jogged around the park last night after I got back (late) from teaching. [livejournal.com profile] mstevens was kind enough to come along and walk (in a smaller circle, to be fair), for which I'm grateful; there didn't seem to be any dodgy people about but if one of us is going to get mugged and killed the other should at least be there to blog it, you know? It had cooled down nicely to a comfortable low-20s temperature, I think, and there was a light breeze, so I wasn't worried about getting too hot. I took a very slow pace on the grass but easily ran for 15 minutes. Didn't walk as long as normal afterward but no stiffness or soreness this morning. Difficulty getting off to sleep last night; not sure if it's the warmness (should sort out better evening air circulation in this house) or the running, I've been tending to stay up quite late after evening running, which could be a problem. Also, if my teaching schedule doesn't end up with me getting home a bit earlier in the autumn, I'm going to have to re-think my Week 2 schedule.

I think on the hotter days I'm going to hvae to open the front and back door for an hour or two before bedtime, when outside has started cooling down. When I got up this morning it was still hotter inside than out, which is just silly; it's okay in this weather but if it starts approaching 40C it will be really annoying. Also, I want a thermometer or two - all the weather websites give me different answers about what temperature it is, because they all take their readings at different times - none of which are 'now' or anything really remotely close to it. Okay, so I can easily feel whether it's cooler inside (shut all the windows) or outside (open everything up), but I guess I grew up with a thermometer outside and in, and I'm used to it.

I'm tempted to do a longer post on how to deal with the heat for those of you who are suffering, because there can be a lot more to it than just sitting in front of a fan and staying hydrated, but it isn't something I'll be working on today.

Today is my last exam of the year. Today I will be mostly preparing for my exam. Tomorrow is sort of a 'day off' - I'll be in at Trinity in the daytime, doing written work, and then teaching one student at half four, and then off to Borders for supper (and I'm actually goign to stay for supper this time, okay?). Wednesday I start busking and the No S Diet. I'm not going to be stupid - if my blood sugar is low and I'm feeling ill, I'll eat something - but I do need to stop randomly eating all the time, and I do need to re-train my stomach to get used to having less food as the feeling of being 'full', and I do need to cut back on the sweet stuff, so No Sweets, No Snacks, No Seconds (except for weekends and Special days) is probably a pretty good system.

Early busking pitches with runs beforehand are going to be fun. At least it's summer, so getting up early is a matter of making sure I get to bed at a sane time, rather than a matter of lying there trying to force myself into verticality when it's still dark. That said, I probably need to institute some sort of strict bedtime for a while.

Good Luck!

I also find that opening all the windows for a couple of hours once the sun is off helps a lot. Sleep would be good!
