Last Christmas, Mom gave ALL of us this emergency car thingy, which entails 1] flashlight, 2] hammer with which to break windows, and 3] knife with which to cut seatbelts.

A friend of mine just had her life saved by the seatbelt-cutting bit of this. If you drive and you don't keep something like this in your glove compartment, please change that. If you're in an accident you may need to be able to get out of your car in a hurry.

The flashlight, I found, works after being submerged, too. It's still full of water.

Thanks for the concern. I'm still dealing with the after-the-fact freaking out..

Yay for indestructible flashlights. I find bicycle lights work well for this, because they're designed for being rained on/falling on the ground/whatever.

Yeah, the shock will take a while to deal with. Take it easy for a few days and get lots of hugs.

Where is one supposed to keep all that equipment?

In the glovebox, presumably. Otherwise one wouldn't be able to reach it in an emergency.

It's one tool - flashlight on one side of the head, hammer on the other, blade seated in the handle. "Life hammers," or something like?
