The dress fits. Well, nearly.

It's a little too tight in the arms and shoulders, so it takes a lot of wriggling around to make it sit properly and even then it's a little uncomfortable and I'm worried about ripping it. Another inch down the length of the sleeve and another two inches in the shoulders and upper back would make it fit much better. And the sleeves are too short, but that's normal for me. I'm not sure whether to send it back for alteration, or wait and get thin - with long sleeves like that I won't be able to wear it properly until at least autumn, and if I'm going to be running and so on it may well fit by then. On the other hand, my bones and joints aren't going to shrink no matter what I do, and I'll always have muscular arms.

Hmmm.

Beautiful dress though. The skirt is HUGE and I love it. The fabric is strokier than I expected it to be, even with teh silver stars it feels smooth.

Gaining fitness won't make you shrink in any of the places where it's tight.

Sitting around waiting for some magical shrinking potion sounds like an awful fate for a lovely dress. Get it altered and enjoy it. :-)

Waiting for the dress to fit is an exercise in amplifying "poor body image" demons, or possibly "wastage of money" ones, or both. Wearing it when it doesn't quite fit doubly so.

Alter it to who you are now, enjoy it, and if you change over time alter it again.

If you can figure out when you'll want to wear it, get it altered a couple of weeks before then. Otherwise, get it altered now, because then you'll be able to wear it without worrying, and you can always alter it again if you change shape.

Your bones aren't going to shrink, it's true, and with the aikido and horn playing the rest of you isn't going to shrink either! Get it altered, you'll feel much better in it if you're not worrying about it ripping and thinking "grr this is annoying around my armpits".

If you want to send it back with a sketch or explanation of where it is too tight, and by how much, I can see how much spare fabric I've got left, and what I might be able to do about it. :)

This is a possibility. I've decided to wait until around September to have any alterations done, because it will almost certainly be too warm to wear it between now and then.

If you don't want to hang onto the spare fabric that long, would you be willing to send it to me, and I'll do my own alterations or find someone local to do them? I'll pay for the fabric, of course. If there is some left over I can use it to make hairfalls.
