Who knew teaching for an hour and a half could be so exhausting?

I'm so not going to choir.

My throat hurts (and no, I was NOT at B-movie), probably just from talking too much.

My eyes are tired.

My brane is tired.

First student was lovely - she is one who did not practise, for ages and ages, and in the last two months seems to have picked up the hint and started practising 4 or 5 times per week most weeks. It shows. She is making progress. She actually finished a piece in 6 weeks, rather than 6 months. She and I are very much enjoying lessons now, and her mother is enjoying the progress. Yay.

Next two have the attention span of a ... thing with a very short attention span. Keeping my own brane on topic is hard enough ([livejournal.com profile] marnameow, your spelling is contagious) without trying to keep the student's brane on topic.

So, in an attempt to actually HAVE a brane when I go to see my new student tomorrow, after spending all afternoon in the Office of Doom, mind you, I am going to stay home from choir tonight, and go to bed at 10pm. (As opposed to coming home from choir at 10.45pm, tired and hungry but with my mind all busy so that it takes me until 1am to unwind, and being all tired and braneless tomorrow). Quiet Evening In. Yeah, that.

There is a little nagging voice telling me that I skip choir too often. Truth is I do not really skip more than anyone else. If they kick me out for lack of attendance they'd have to kick out most of the sopranos - and when I do not go to rehearsal I am generally capable of reading the music the next week and knowing what is going on. I miss stuff but I am a good catch-up because I read music so well. Anyway it is more important tonight for me to be in good condition and get this new student tomorrow. Students earn me money. Choir costs me money. If it is going to come down to students or choir, then choir will have to be the one to go, much as I will miss it.

Gosh, I miss getting PAID to sing....

wow - I have never been paid to sing. This is most likely because I can't. :)
