Good morning.
Yesterday was teaching, wandering Camden, and dinner. I bought a new skirt in Camden market, mostly because the purple velvet one I was wearing (the one my stepdad bought me when I was, what, 14? It's comfortable! It's purple and velvet! Yay!) has the velvet with the nap sideways, which means it makes my coat creep around and get all twisty and uncomfortable. So. Yes. Broke my Spending Money Rules by £35, as these things are meant to wait, but bought a lovely skirt and an afternoon of relative comfort.
The skirt is knitted. The yarn it is made from is spun out of floor sweepings from silk sari weaving factories. Waste not, want not, and so on. It's knitted in the round, fairly loosely, so the fabric is cuddly and comfortable like the big blue and white sleeping sweater my mum made me (the one I can nearly literally fit two people in). There is ribbing at the bottom to stop it rolling up. It's quite long and could easily double as a strapless dress. It will look slightly better when I'm in better shape.
It broke - caught on a chair - but I noticed it right away and was able to repair it effectively then and there. I was planning to go back and fix it 'properly' later but now I can't find the spot where I fixed it.
My back is pretty unhappy. I think I carried too many groceries on Saturday, and now it hates me. I may have been favouring it a bit while horn playing last week too, though, so as usual with me it isn't just one simple cause. That said, my current (and crappy) backpack definitely needs to be replaced with something much better... when I can afford it. Bugger.
So. Today.
Academic
Still haven't sorted out those papers, and I really need to. Ho-hum. Classes today, also ho-hum.
Creative
Need to find the appropriate crochet hook and get started on socks for
purpletigron.
It has come to my attention that chocolate truffles are really not all that difficult to make. Look out, world.
Secretarial
Find forms for passport application again. Print them out from Trinty library.
If can't find form for cheepo stoodent oystercard thingum today, pop down to student services for another one.
Phone gym to reschedule intro that I missed on Friday due to being soaked.
Right, that's 3 things, which is enough. Enough, I say! But actually, I also need to make a doctor's appointment. So, four things.
Wishing
-I'd eaten breakfast sooner. Tumbly is very rumbly.
-Getting up in the morning were easier. Perhaps time to invest in one of those dawn simulators. No, I can't put my lightbox on a timer (it has some sort of weird-ass fuse thing going on, if I leave it on and then switch the power off at the plug and then back on again, I have to press the switch on the lightbox to make the light come on again). I might try another lamp on a timer, but I don't know that the "suddenly it is light" thing is going to work as well as dawn simulation might. Or perhaps I need to be stricter about using the lightbox immediately I get up, rather than 'sometime in the morning if I'm not going to be spending significant amounts of time outside that day'.
Wondering
-whether my Canajan cashcard will arrive today
-whether I can sort my back myself again this time or need to see an osteopath/chiropractor to sort it out for me
-whether any of you have experience seeing an acupuncturist (feel free to e-mail if you don't want medical stuffs on a public post)
-whether rainfall is back up to average for this time of year or we're still droughting. I don't have a good feel for these sorts of things and it's more difficult to tell from vegetation during this season
-whether it might snow this year.
Planning
-stuff from secretarial section
-class
-gym intro? if there is schedule space for me today. I want to get started.
-probably going to Aikido, but just to watch for this week and next as I've been out of it so long now due to dodgy elbow. Which still hurts occasionally damnit, and I'm sure it isn't meant to feel gristly where it does. Anyway I want to stay involved with Aikido forsure.
No links just yet today. I have to get myself going now.

Date: 2006-11-20 12:38 pm (UTC)I'm no longer doing the "wake up at 6am and lie there feeling zombified" thing now that I was doing in summer, probably because it's not summer and therefore not light in my room. I think anything too sudden would probably result in my pulling the covers up over my head to keep the light out, rather than gradually waking up... but as it is, I'm not waking up sufficiently to turn the light on so that I wake up. So maybe a timer would be better than nothing.

Date: 2006-11-20 08:43 pm (UTC)It's probably worth shopping around, or buying on ebay, because Lumie stuff is, imho, overpriced and not great quality.
