The Good: I'm not teaching Saturday Suzuki School this Saturday, 6th January. This means I'm free to go to Leicester or stay here and sort some things out or various other things.

The Bad: Only 5, not 6, sessions of Suzuki this term. Not the end of the world, but at £25/hour, losing three-and-a-bit hours is annoying.

The Ugly: I'm teaching on 27th January, which is right after the Masquerade Ball. I'm going to have to get up VERY early indeed in order to be there on time. Blah. Suitable trains are at 06.20, 06.38, 07.05 and 07.16 - later than that they are all too late. I'd rather not take the 06.20 as it is 1:40 on the train and the others are all about an hour. I think aiming for the 06.38 might be a good plan. How far is the hotel from the train station, again?

Can I be bothered to head back up to Oxford for a housewarming party after that?

The train station is less than 10 minutes walk from the Randolph.

Useful! Thank you.

I suppose if I pack a breakfast I can eat on the train, it should be a matter of "wake up, pull on clothes, drink fluids, stumble to station, fall onto train, do breakfast/morning pages there." Although that doesn't account for an hour of lightbox which I really ought to do at some point, preferably before I teach.

Could you do that at Suzuki? An hour might be a bit much, but maybe you could squeeze in half an hour?

No, not a chance.

It being a Sunday, you might need to check for delays and works on the line :-(

Returning to Oxfnord sounds silly but...

  • [livejournal.com profile] j4 and [livejournal.com profile] addedentry are Nice People;
  • I will be staying for the party;
  • There's still two peoples' stuff to haul back to London.

How portable is the lightbox? I think it runs on batteries but I don't have it handy..

Also, the Oxford Tube runs a cheap and frequent coach service from Gloucester Green bus station (even closer to The Randolph than the train station). This stops at Lancaster Gate and Marble Arch, which might be handy for you...

The lightbox does not run on batteries. Newer ones do, but that one doesn't.

And although the bus is certainly worth consideration, the chance of writing on it without being ill is pretty much nil, so unless it really is quite a bit faster than the train it is probably not a huge advantage.

The X90 is another coach service from Oxford to London & is usually quicker 'cos it stops at fewer places on its way into London, but it's been years since I've taken either. Both the Oxford Tube + X90 offer student discounts.
