I've been off to see a student osteopath at the British School of Osteopathy.

She seemed okay; the forms they have to fill out to do a patient history are very thorough and that took ages so I didn't get much actual treatment time today. I also saw her tutor, who seemed keen to warn me that osteopathy would not Solve All My Problems; I can see how he might have had that impression from the symptom sheet but really I would just like them to sort out my back please. Current PLN is to have 3-5 treatments and see how I respond, which sounds reasonable to me.

Student osteopath seems to think that I have some mild hypermobility and that this might be part of the problem; I'm not sure I'm convinced of that, as I don't think of myself as particularly flexible. But I'll go back next week and see what happens, certainly.

I forgot to ask for a note re: playing horn.

I'd love to get some details from you some time about the BSO - I have been thinking of getting ion touch with them for a while, due to back problems in my family, but I'm not sure how seeing the student osteopaths works.

They're fabulous. There's some New Age puffery attached to osteopathy (as there is with chiropracty), but if it's backs or muscles, they're ace. You get a fourth-year student working on your back with a supervisor looking over the case, making suggestions and popping in every now and then to see how things are going. They unfucked my back nicely. I recommend them wholeheartedly.

That's good to know, ta. I must get in contact with them - I presume the deal with the school is they offer discounts on normal industry rates for you offering the students practice?

I am mostly tolerant of New Age puffery, provided it's not patently ridiculous. Or exploitative.

Yup, it's cheaper - when I went a coupla years ago it was £16 a session rather than full price of £35. (Both of which are non-outrageous prices IMO.)
