I have stuff I need to get rid of.
I have several dead computers - mostly laptops - and a few desktop cases. And a now-defunct desktop, with CRT monitor. I can't really lift these to transport them. I'd like to have another Geek Scrapheap Challenge sometime soon, but I can't guarantee I'll be able to lift things on the day, either to get there or to get back, and this stuff is taking up space in my living room. Anyone willing to come by and get it is welcome to it.
I have a spinning wheel that needs some work (like, um, a new flyer, and some TLC with wood glue). I'm never going to get the work done. Please take it away; selling it on eBay is going to be more trouble than it's worth, and I'm not in a good condition to be packing it up and taking it to the post office, unfortunately. And it would cost a fair amount to post.
I have a table loom I have never managed to get around to using. I got it off Freecycle so it seems wrong to sell it but I've considered sticking it on eBay; if any of you want to make an offer, please let me know. If any of you want it but only if it's free, please let me know. I'd still kindof like to keep this, but can't justify it in terms of the space it takes up now; long-term loan for someone who has the space and wants to experiment with weaving would be good, too.
I will Freecycle this stuff but I figured polite to offer it to flist first.
I need to make the living room tidy. This is as much for my own mental health as out of respect for my housemate (who has been extraordinarily patient, but is bothered by the mess in common areas - and whether this is fair is not at issue since we are, in fact, both bothered by the mess). There are two ways to do this - one is to take all my stuff, put it in boxes, and put the boxes in my (full, messy) bedroom. The other is to significantly reduce the overall amount of stuff I have in a sensible and well-thought-out way, and fit what is left into the available space. The first way will result in having mess again in a few weeks, the second way will be slower but more permanent. I'm trying to get rid of the big stuff first.
Possibly the best way would be a combination - take all the stuff, put it in boxes somewhere 'out of the way' and then work through a box a day until I have way less stuff - but I do not currently have the swap space to do this, or an efficient mode of transport to some other swap space (ie storage somewhere).
I'm going to need a (two-drawer) filing cabinet, some under-bed boxes of some sort with lids (thankfully my under-the-bed is tall enough to accomodate many boxes; I'll measure later), and probably some more shelving for the loft. It would also be very good to get the BEDDINGE bed base for my double mattress, so that it is not on the floor and I can put stuff under there too (I think it's possible to get special bed bases?). I don't have space to deal with any of this until some of the surplus STUFF is gone, though; the same holds true for a laser printer I'm trying to make space for, and that CD rack
pfy gave me. Also, my budget for such things is very low. So, it makes sense to sell some of the excess STUFF on eBay, really.
And yeah, I'm going to need to learn better picking-up-and-putting-away habits.
