Pretty things

Solar charger - I don't think I'm getting one as my current solar panel works well for me, but thought others might be interested.

Mini-directory of green fabrics. For now I'm still going for re-use whenever possible, but I admit to being intrigued by the link to NettleWorld - anyone want to translate some of that for me?

Spearmint Tea a possible treatment for Hirsutism. Interesting if it affects you.

BlinkyBugs. Sorry, just, they light up and they're cute. But it would be really cool to do something like this but made from the solar-powered garden lights with a rechargeable battery. I like that they respond to changes in their environment.

Have any of you ever eaten Germinated Brown Rice? I mean, it sounds neat, but some bits of my brain scream "long-heated rice is dangerous eeep do not eat that."

How the hell did it get to be 12.45? Meep.

I haven't eaten germinated rice, but it's probably not that different from sprouting and eating other grains. Which I also have not done, because part of my brain says "ewww!" and another part says "hmm, ingredient for bread baking!" but no part says "yum, scrumptious snack". LOL

I love the bit in the comments of the brown rice thing where people say that anyone can make any quack claims and the onus is on everyone else to prove them wrong...

Cooked rice kept warm is dangerous; I think this is a lot less digestible for bacteria, doesn't start off warm on the inside and is growing and metabolising its own sugar pretty fast anyway, so won't give you food poisoning.

I'm a little confused about why GABA is good for you. I mean, it's a neurotransmitter, not a nutrient. More is not the same as better. (It is in fact related to the glutamine receptor, though I can't remember why; I suspect this is another thing I Really Shouldn't Eat...)

BGR sounds... interesting. Not entirely convinced you can make up for the energy that goes into it by redesigning your website to a black background though. ;-)

I are very interested in the spearmint tea thing... but why must mint tea be so vile! Why couldn't it have been blackcurrant tea? oh well. :)
