The Big Opt-Out - Protect your privacy and campaign to preserve medical confidentiality. (UK)

This device is much cheaper than the one I was looking at before, and doesn't involve any welding or attaching things permanently to the horn, AND it would allow me to play standing up (although then my body would still be supporting the weight of the horn, just in a different place, so I'd have to see how it goes...), so I think I will be buying one at some point.

It's the last day for London: A Life in Maps at the British Library. I don't think I'll make it, perhaps someone will buy the book and I can have a gander.

Petitions, petitions, petitions! Academic salaries (which are pitiful in the UK compared to some places), photography in public places, and an outright ban on swords. WTF? Remind me how these people got elected, again?

Floodmaps - see how much water there will be where you live with a sea level rise of up to 14m. Even if it won't flood your place, remember to think about how displaced populations (refugees) might affect conditions in your area.

ChanceXChange - one item, one credit. Interesting... and might be a good way to get rid of some unwanted stuff.

Naamah's Swearing Workshop. Hooray! Um, probably not safe for work.

Ohhh I had looked for the flood map all over the place. Even with a 10+ sea rise, my house won't go under... :-)

Just cos someone has got a petition against it doesn't mean that there are actual plans to do it. The sword petition is particularly stupid: it's a devolved Scottish proposal, yet the petition only vaguely hints at Scotland, and urges the "Prime Minister" to do "reconsider" it. Better to be petitioning the Scottish Executive! Muppets.

I'm actually surprised how very little of Ontario is touched even with a +14m rise. Montreal, on the other hand, is mostly screwed, my boyfriend's country (the Bahamas) is almost completely destroyed (I'm surprised there's anything left, really...), and I think my future university may have been completely flooded out, as well as my dig sites.

I'll sign petitions when I know what I'm signing for. Is there a credible source that says what these proposed restrictions on photography and swords actually are? Or even confirms that the proposals exist?

The swearing tutorial is superb.

Hmm, with a sea-level rise of 14m, Stratford and Leyton get drowned, and I get a nice beachfront property.

Excuse me, I have to go and burn something carbon-based.

Thanks for the opt-out stuff. The whole thing enrages me. I hate this control-freak government with a fucking passion.

Banning swords will really upset the Scots: the Claymore is part of ceremonial dress!
