Serves me right for my earlier post about the weather, I got rather drenched this morning. The puddles were a third of the way to my knees and there didn't seem to be a good route around them that would be more efficient than just wading, so I waded. Thankfully I was wearing sandals, so it doesn't matter too much; they'll dry soon enough. And it was warm enough I didn't feel particularly cold, and I had an umbrella, so though my ankle-length denim skirt got absolutely drenched (thank you idiot car drivers going faster than you can safely stop anyway!) the rest of me was dry enough to be comfortable.

I find this more amusing than distressing. I'm still quite glad of the rain.

That the puddles got so big so fast does beg the question of why permeable paving is not yet mandatory in cities... especially cities situated on floodplains.

I think the current problem is more that the drainage systems are designed for your average piddly english rain and not the downpours, so the water can't drain away quick enough. i heard/red something about how the floods we've been having in the last month have all been from 100 year storms, but the frequency seems to now be 20 year (statistics pulled out of my arse - it was some thing along those lines, though.)

As for driver in rain... I haven't noticed it so much here, but in Adelaide you got this idea that when it rains, you can drive just as fast and at the same distance behind other cars as usual (ie stopping distance), but you have to accelerate slower. *facepalm*
