As usual, props to anyone who gave me these links - no, I don't always remember who it was. Also I'm writing this offline, as I'm on the train, so I can't follow things up as much as I'd like.

Feminism Post-Peak - excellent article from Sharon of Casaubon's Book.

Shoulder exercises for arthritis - may also be good for RSI. I do variants of these.

Independent article about TUE. For more information about TUE please see the TUE website or the Yahoo! Group for the experiment. I'm hoping we'll have a proper blog up soon, too.

Green tea could help inflammatory skin diseases. I guess instead of using one part ACV and one part water to rinse my hair, I'll be using one part ACV and one part green tea...Much wootness.

President Robert Mugabe has approved a law that will give the government sweeping powers to monitor the Internet and mobile and fixed telephones in a country where the independent press has been gagged..

Interesting article about Facebook. I'm not sure I entirely agree with it, but it's food for thought.

Guerilla Gardening: A Manualfesto. Could be an interesting book to own. Personally I think seed balls are the way to go...

Thinking of moving? Find your local "walk score" - fascinating and useful. I'm not sure how accurate it is, though.

Magic Paper seems to be some sort of thin, flexible whiteboard.

Make a ring or a pendant from silver coins. In the US that's pre-1964; I'm not sure about Canada or Britain, but I bet Wikipedia would know. I also wonder about doing the same with copper coins - again, I'd have to make sure they're an appropriate year.

FlyLady's 11 Points to Preparedness for Evacuation - not a bad guide for getting together some initial bits and pieces. With the weather getting ever more volatile I think it's not a bad idea for anyone to be ready to go at a moment's notice. I'd probably ignore the 'pictures' bit, though. Yeah, it's sad to lose them, but they're not necessary for survival.

Blue Lagoon Island Resort for sale on eBay. I don't see any mention of where they get the fresh water supply, though, and I'd want a detailed geological survey... and I can't afford it anyway, of course.

That's all for now, folks.

I had heard something about green tea being good for skin, but the only source I could find was a website that sold, erm, green tea. So thanks for the link.

The island looks like a pretty good deal, assuming that it won't be underwater when the ice caps melt... maybe that's why the owner is selling up?

There aren't any silver coins in general circulation in Britain any more, so you'd need to look in some junk shops and find one that was too worn to have any value as a collectible. Before the new 5p and 10p coins were introduced, you'd very, very rarely get a silver shilling or florin in your change. Pre-1947 ones were 50% silver, and pre-1920 ones were 92.5% silver. 1p and 2p (http://www.royalmint.com/RoyalMint/web/site/Corporate/Corp_british_coinage/CurrentSpecifications.asp) coins from before 1992 are 97% copper, but since then they've been bronze-plated steel.

We're improving our "walk score" from 32 to 53 when we move. However, I don't find it very accurate. For example, right around the corner from our home is one of the largest parks in all of Toronto (Cedarvale Ravine) and it's not designated as "park"; nor is the playground that's four houses up the street. It also didn't take into account that we are very close to the subway.

An interesting site, nonetheless.

For pure silver coins in the UK, pre 1920. For part silver, if memory serves. between 1920 and 1946 they're half silver. After that, no silver at all.

Oops, PFY already said that.

The Facebook article wouldn't load for me, but after hunting around, the link appears to be http://www.worldchanging.com/archives//007069.html (missing a /).
