I'm meant to start teaching on Sunday morning, at 8am, in Hendon.

The DLR is Not Working this weekend.

Helf from people who live closer?

I think perhaps tomorrow morning I need to do a dry run with the bicycle, see if I can get to Canary Wharf and then from East Finchley to where I'm going in a sensible-enough amount of time to make it feasible to stay at home.

I'm probably missing something here — is the lack of DLR the only problem? If so, then could you get the D7 bus to Mile End then Central Line to change at Bank? (Am assuming you've discounted walking to Canary Wharf for some good reason, but wasn't sure if you were aware of the bus.)

The problem with the bus is that at that time on a Sunday morning they are both infrequent and unreliable. The problem with walking to Canary Wharf is that it adds a good 20 minutes to my travel time, which is already going to be Too Long (the place I'm actually starting is in Hampstead Garden Suburb, 20 minutes walk from any station).

Yes, an extra 20 minutes is a good reason! I thought it might be something like that, or having too much to carry.

Boo to the buses being unreliable first thing — that's the opposite of my experience, but my experience is (a) a few years old, (b) of weekdays, and (c) in a completely different part of London.

We have a spare bed, but it's not at all back-friendly... And I have no idea what my plans are for the weekend just yet - there's some stuff that's up in the air still.

There are probably better options out there, but if needs must!

Sorry - not to say you aren't welcome! I'm just worried it only fits one need...

I'll bear it in mind.

My best place to sleep, since I have to sleep with legs in air, is probably on the floor with my legs up on the sofa.

If Ewt thinks this is a viable suggestion, then if required I can point doop at this post for helpful comments, since he cycle-commutes Bermondsey -> Canary Wharf.
