Specialty Liqueurs
Sep. 7th, 2007 07:13 pmIn the past I have experimented with making various flavoured vodkas, as well as sloe gin. The results have been pretty good.
This year, I have plans for apple, elderberry, blackberry, hawthorn, rosehip, quince and fennel flavoured vodkas, as well as the usual sloe gin. All the fruits are foraged locally by me.
If you want a bottle, you must either:
a) buy me twice that volume of vodka or gin,
or b) pay me £10 per 500mL of liquid you get back
or c) work out some other useful barter.
The way it works, is you give me a bottle of vodka (or money for a bottle of vodka), I give it back but half the vodka has been removed, and replaced with magical liqueur-making ingredients.
Most of these will not be ready to drink until Christmas. They make excellent gifts. If you want several small bottles instead of one big bottle, that can be arranged, but I may ask for your help in acquiring small glass bottles if I run out.
Things are mostly early this year in terms of harvest, so deadlines for orders are as follows:
apple, blackberry, elderberry Friday 14th September
fennel, sloe Friday 21st September
rosehip, hawthorn Friday 28th September
quince end of October
All of these are according to availability. If I get out on Friday 14th September and absolutely all of the elderberries are gone, there's no way I can make your elderberry vodka. On the other hand if I'm still seeing elderberries later in the season I may extend deadlines.
Please specify whether you want sweetened or unsweetened (though all sloe gin will be sweetened unless otherwise specified, because that is what sloe gin IS). Most of these flavours are pretty rough if they don't have some sugar in them. If you want unsweetened, I suggest buying me good-quality vodka rather than paying me £10 for what I can buy at ASDA.
I may have extras to sell later but if you know what you want your best bet is to order now by replying to this or e-mailing me.
