Part of my contract with FAME Recruitment states that in the four months I will be working at Multi-Sharp I am to get one week (16 hours) of paid holiday.

I phoned to find out how I am meant to arrange this - obviously I have to speak to Multi-Sharp about it but surely there is paperwork to be done etc, and I obviously need to speak to FAME about it too, if nothing else to let them know when it is.

The lady on the phone was not able to tell me anything about the procedure for doing this and is apparently going to phone me back. It's now 17.15 so I'm not sure about the whole phoning back business.

How does this sort of thing normally work when working through an agency? I've never done agency work before, I've always been directly employed, so I really don't know this stuff.

This is just my experience of agency work in London - they will give you what you're owed without too much hassle - but only if you ask for it.

I would advise being polite but insistent. Ring them back tomorrow and ask again - be really polite, but just be firm. Tell them that you want to arrange when to take your paid leave, and ask them what you need to do. (They should pretty much take care of it, you just need to sort out suitable dates etc.)
