My phone has died. Well, sortof. The top bit of the clamshell with all the display stuff won't go, so I can't use it; I can't see if anyone is calling and the thing is of necessity on silent most of the time. If it's turned off and on again it doesn't turn on properly because there's no screen.
Does anyone have a spare Motorola V525 I can have for hacking apart to try to fix my existing phone? It would be good to get most of the phone numbers off of it, although most of them are duplicated elsewhere. That is probalby impractical at my current skill level and botheredness, although in future it may well be a fun option.
Also, any spare phone that will take a Vodafone SIM card would be great at the moment.
I was going to wait another month or so and then see what Vodafone would be willing to sell me on my current contract (or some other contract better for me, possibly), and I'd still like to do that, but I really cannot afford to be without a phone in the meantime. I'm loathe to go out and buy another Motorola because the inferface a) sucks and b) is buggy as hell. I'm loathe to go out and buy another phone without doing a lot of research because most of them have sucky interfaces that are buggy as hell. I'm loathe to go out and buy a cheap £20 phone from ASDA, because I can't find any cheap crap clamshell ones and having tri-band is important (I travel to Canadia enough it's useful) and having intarweb, even if it's too expensive for me to use regularly, is very occasionally a fucking lifesaver, or something like it.

SCRATCH that. It appears to be working again. I've saved all my contacts to the SIM card just in case.
But I really ought to sort out a spare sooner rather than later if the hardware is starting to crap out on that sort of level... and if this is something like water damage it may well be intermittent and come back at really inconvenient moments.
EDIT: Yeah, intermittent. Just crapped out again and when it came back it conveniently left out some of the pixels, and it's getting worse every time I open the thing. I need to do something about this Soon.

Date: 2006-02-14 04:47 pm (UTC)Unfortunately I have no old sim-lock free phone phones around, but I hope that someone has one that you can at least use until the current contract runs out.
