Buttons has killed a squirrel. I'm less squeamish about it than I am about rats and mice but still not keen on the dead animals being brought indoors. I suppose in some ways it's better than the bird, which was still alive when it was brought in, but I don't really know when the squirrel actually died.

Between the two cats, then, in the last month:
-at least one mouse (Neil brought it into the house. I don't know if it was the same mouse that was two half-mice a day or so later...)
-two rats
-one bird
-one squirrel.

I suspect everything but the m/ice/ouse is the doing of Buttons. He was cleaning his paws the other day and when his toes are extended he has a huge pawspan. Really huge, huger than I've seen on other cats that size. No wonder he catches rats half his size.

If I ate small rodents I would definitely want to have these cats with me if the world started falling apart. I mean, I'm sure I could make some sort of soup and a pair of mittens out of what has been brought in so far. Very much not kosher, though... not that that would be an issue in a world-falling-apart scenario.

I am ready to go home. It's a nice feeling; last year I didn't really want to go back to halls. I'm ready to go home and have a shorter commute (although I'll still end up spending significant amounts of time on trains). I'm ready to go home and start gardening. I'm ready to go home and not worry about walking/feeding/praising the dog. I'll miss the cats... but Black Kitten and Mitzy will come visit once I'm home, I'm sure. I'm going home on Monday. Hooray! Home! I like our little house.

In other news, my dad (come on, you don't think I read El Reg?) has sent me this link to an article on Thames Online wifi. Interesting. Especially if I get Bricklet working with the wireless network card. Especially if I'm actually close enough to the river to use it. Hmmm. I've signed up for the free trial, in any case. This means I need to sort out some sort of wireless before April to see if it actually works, and that means I need to get my finger out and fix Bricklet.

I need a "geek" icon. Or maybe a "notageek" icon.

Survivalists! What will YOU do when the apocalypse comes? Worried about starving? Not with this bad-ass kitty at your side!

That's cute, if slightly disgusting. At least the cats haven't decided you need to learn how to hunt. Well, yet.

Oh, the first mouse was alive when it was brought into the house - straight to me. I think they do think I need to learn how to hunt. At the very least they don't understand why I eat all those vegetables.

Ah. I think it's migrated from the kitchen table to the shelf by the door: there are three AtoZ's there now, and I only remember there being two.

Nope, it's in a plastic bag on the floor near the kitchen table.

But noted.
