Fundraising
Dec. 22nd, 2006 04:10 pmIdeas for fundraising:
-concert in aid of tour fund? Could do at end of February if I can get hall space and participants. I'm thinking 'suggested donation' rather than 'entry fee' though.
-pre-sell CD of groups I meet over the summer? Need to find at least 3 bands who will talk to me, first.
-beg people
-sell "Music should be free" t-shirts
-beg organisations
Any other suggestions?
EDIT: T-shirts, buttons, etc - anyone know of anything that's like CafePress but more ethical in terms of the materials used?
No, I won't be using them for the audio CD bit, it would increase the time too much and I have to make a source CD anyway so may as well send that to the customers...
Also, any idea how to make this not look like "Please fund my vacation"? There are elements of vacation in it but I will not be paying for those; the rest of it is rather hard work, actually.

MUSIC PIRACY!" category, and have bought into the hype from recording companies. The only way to convince them otherwise is going to be to actively prove them wrong.

Date: 2006-12-22 07:40 pm (UTC)There is a blog at yourmusichouse.blogspot.com; http://www.yourmusichouse.org and www.yourmusichouse.com both currently forward to that.
I'm hoping to have some actual website content in the next few weeks, but need to sort out hosting first and since that is happening for freeeeeeee (thanks to
I've basically decided to go ahead with the project whether or not the relevant department at Trinty approves the project proposal, because I think that this is something that should exist.
how not to "please fund my vacation" :D
Date: 2006-12-23 04:14 pm (UTC)Part of the things you can show to potential trip supporters would be the spiffy site as you mentioned, a list of people who have contributed time, money, musical materials already, and a list of people that you will potentially meet up with on The Trip. That last list will look most impressive and "real business" if you've managed to get postal service/phone contact details and not just website or emails.
When you're contacting people to see if they'd like to meet up, you can also ask if they'd like to donate materials via the internet. Some folks may already have digital recordings of their music, or the means to scan in scores and such. :)
Another thing would be to send an email to the music departments of the colleges and universities. Sometimes current students are doing brilliant things, sometimes professors do brilliant things, and sometimes professors keep in contact with former students who have gone on to professional careers.
A lot of times, though, current students have some idea of local music scenes, and may know of people who aren't affiliated with the universities.
I think I'm wandering off on a tangent.. hope this was helpful; and if it was already stuff in your head then at least you know another person has it in their head too. heh.
