I've been invited to volunteer at The Utopia Experiment for two weeks from 23rd July. I wouldn't have to pay anything, just get myself up there.

I would LOVE to go. Really. Specifically I'd be doing felting and yarn stuff, as well as generally helping out. They know I can't do heavy labour. They would really like to get the felting started this summer, rather than next, because (obviously) it would be good to have warm things to wear this coming winter.

Aikido summer camp is the first two weeks of August and I'd very much like to get to at least one week of that.

This would mean three weeks out of London, though, and no real opportunity to earn for any of it, which means I'm basically out a month's expenses plus travel fees and Aikido course fees (hopefully [livejournal.com profile] hairyears will help with accomodation once I'm at Aikido camp, as he did last summer). I don't think I'll be busking by then but I may well be doing some audio typing or other work to make ends meet over the summer.

I don't see how I can possibly manage to do this. It's just not financially viable. Also, my parents would quite like me to visit Canada at some point this summer, and no WAY can I do both, even though I'd prefer to go in the winter (because SNOW and stuff).

*sulk* I can't go to Dartington this summer; the playing is just too physically demanding, and while I'll probably have my horn stick by then (I hope I will anyway!), I'm not going to be in any shape to lug my instrument around up and down hills and stuff.

Tired of being po'.

One thing I am thinking of is something a bit like waht [livejournal.com profile] naamah_darling did for the wolves, but for TUE instead, and instead of all profits being donated, having half of them donated and half go to the maker of the pretty things. It would be good publicity for TUE, it would be hopefully good fundraising for them, but also good publicity for anyone who decides to make stuff and donate it. And if I'm very lucky I might find that I make enough to actually get me there...

Anyone interested? [livejournal.com profile] mubeimmik? [livejournal.com profile] yellowrocket? [livejournal.com profile] claire_wain? Anyone else? Am I insane here?

Keep me posted, it looks like it would be a really interesting opportunity! I know that a lot of people on etsy donate whatever percentage of their sales for their charity/project/interest of choice.

I think if there's any way to swing it, going would be a good thing, but not if it's going to stress you to the point of falling apart.

Wow, those Utopia Experiment people are keen and seem to be taking the doom-mongering in a very serious and practical way. I hope you can go, and tell us all about it!

Not able to help with this one, I'm afraid - I'm currently selling stuff faster than I'm making it and I can't take on anything extra!

Good luck though :-)

I don't think anything I made would be good enough to sell. :/

You applied to them, though? How were they about it? I've been thinking about it, but I wasn't sure if I'd get in what with all the Speshul crap going on.

I wrote a wossname to the mailing list saying what stuff I could do, and got a mail back from Dylan regarding dates.

:)

If you apply and don't get in it is not exactly the end of the world.

I'd very much like to join in if you do go ahead with the auction idea, subject to people reality-checking my work of course.

I was thinking of volunteering for that as well, but wasn't expecting to have the time until late this year or early next.
