Henna

Okay, I'm putting henna in my hair today.

I'm using Lush Caca Rouge, because it seemed like a good idea at the time. I want more of a purple/grape/mahogany colour if possible, though, so I've added some things to the mixture: beetroot, and pomegranate juice. Hey, they're both notorious for staining terribly everything they come into contact with, so it's worth a try.

I took a 330g jar of pickled baby beetroot, selected on the grounds that it seemed to have the most colour of the jars that were available. Used a hand blender to make it into a fine paste. I put that and the block of CaCa into a double-boiler thing, because that's what Lush said to do, and instead of adding water I added pomegranate juice - about half a litre in all. It was still lumpy and after LOADS of stirring and so I gave up and used the hand blender again - and managed NOT to coat the kitchen in henna, thankfully.

I've left it on the stove now, over the hot water (but with the gas turned off thanks!), to let the dye get out of the henna and into the gloop. There's a lot of it; I think I may end up putting half into a container and freezing it for use another time. I've taken a bit and mixed it with another hair sample culled from my brush, which I'll rinse and check before I put the stuff into the hair on my head. It's a deep chocolate red-brown colour now.

Possible problems: having gloop made of beetroot and pomegranate juice might mean the dye doesn't get out of the henna into the gloop as much, oops. Probably would have been better to do the henna in hot water separately and then mix it with beetroot and pomegranate right before applying it to my hair. Oh well.

It's really more likely to be some variant of red. But it should be strokier than it's been for a while...

It all sounds very complex, but the colour looks great!

I think it looks good!

I stopped dying my hair funky colors, sadly, because of the toxicity and the hassle. Now I do henna every few months and it looks pretty nice, even if it's not shockingly bright :)

Didn't re-bleach; the dark bits are still quite dark, just not as visible in the second picture.
