Been thinking about getting a 'spare' lightbox for a while now; I'm keeping my old one at Trinity to use while I practise, but bringing it home on weekends etc. is something of a pain. Also it's not as bright as the newer ones, and it's noisy (newer ones are silent), and the newest one can run from a battery which would be handy at times.

So. The model I want is the Litebook Elite.

I can buy it in Saskatchewan (at London Drugs of all places) for CAD$199.99, or on eBay for £149, or from Litebook for USD$279.

Um.

Yeah, guesswhat? I think I buy one in Canadia and bring it back with me.

Must use mine more..I'm blah...we keep ours on the other side of the room as that is where the plug is, but it is supposed to be closer isn't it. Read the other day you can get lightbulbs like the lightboxes...wonder where?

extension lead ...?

you can get daylight bulbs, either from specialist shops or some large hardware stores stock them. You can also get "daylight filter sleeves" for fluorescent strip lights but I don't know if they have all the frequencies you need.

Oh, and some art&craft shops stock them.

Extension lead -> potential trip hazard!

I had a colleague who balanced his light box on top of his CRT monitor in the office. It only came crashing down a few times, and luckily didn't break itself, anything nor anyone because it was quite heavy.

ewtikins> will your transatlantic light be compatible with the UK's stronger electricity? 240V is very unforgiving of devices only expecting 110V.

Thing runs off 12V DC with a standard adapter, so it is fine. :)

Tape the lead to the floor!

If it's a hard floor gaffer tape works very well for this pupose. I'm not so certain about using it on some carpets though. Using something that doesn't stick quite so much (Normal sellotape? Masking tape?) would a better bet.

How have you got on with the light box, I've been toying with one but they're expensive. Was thinking of one of the wake up light alarm clocks, as I read somewhere that they're better than just a light, as it sets your body for the day.

Given that I'm leaving Vancouver in a few days if I decide to get one it would be a lot cheaper here.

Hugs. x

In winter, for me, the lightbox makes the difference between doing things and sitting inside feeling sorry for myself all day.

Going outside is still better, but I can't always do that before I have Other Stuff to do, and if the weather is crap and I'm already feeling a bit down (which I will be if it is winter) then my inclination to actually go outside is pretty low.

I'd quite like to try a sunrise-simulation alarm clock at some point.
