Coccooned in a blizzard, though it seems to have died down now. The weather is mild enough in temperature, anyway.

I have been fed Real Pizza what has Actual Toppings on it. This is a good thing.

Very, very tired; to this end I am going to sleep. Also I only have a small amount of battery left; will go shopping for adapter tomorrow, in between doing all the laundry in the universe.

Not much to draw for that one... Blizzards are, like, white.

What you need for a good blizzard photo is seriously pink hair.

Welcome Back to the West!

Are there any things in Canada you will be taking back to the UK? While away what things about Canada do you miss the most?

I'll be taking back something called "Bacon Salt" as a friend has requested it. I'll also be taking home a lightbox, as they are cheaper here by far. With a bit of luck I'll finish a sewing project I've brought with me so I'll bring that home too...

When I'm in the UK I miss the snow (particularly in winter) and the space. Also the proper insulation; I was just writing to a friend that the outside walls here do in fact feel cold but only as cold as the inside walls, the cold is probably coming from the basement rather than outside. And the window surfaces feel the same as the walls, due to excellent glazing (tripple I think).

I miss radiators. Standing on top of a vent shooting warm air at you is not the same as curling up beside a radiator for warmth.

There are two rooms in this house smaller than the room I live in in Bethnal Green, and one of those rooms is the bathroom. There are no rooms smaller than the kitchen in Bethnal Green. Did I mention I like the space here?

The unfortunate by-product of All That Space, though, is that public transport here is lacking. It's a very car-centric society. At the moment my father is out, I think, and while I could walk to the 'local shops' (ie the mall and shopping complex) to pick up those things I need to pick up today (adapter for laptop, perhaps a PAYG sim for my phone if such things exist here, vitamins etc. I didn't move, shampoo and laundry soap that won't make me itch), it would take me at least 45 minutes to get there and probably closer to an hour, or even an hour and a half as I don't really walk as fast as I used to (joint issues). And no, I won't be riding a bicycle in this snow, though with knobbly enough tyres it could probably be done... there is a bus, I'm not sure of the schedule, might have a look though.

When I get back to the UK I will be very happy to take the Tube home instead of being dependent on someone to pick me up at the airport.

Another thing I miss about London is the local shops. Okay, where I was living there weren't many, but in Bethnal Green there are loads, and a street market every day. Fresh fruit and veg are very easy to come by, and it's easy to do a bit of food shopping every day or three instead of all at once. This is good, in my view. Here there is more storage space but also more distance to the supermarket. It's partly a climate thing, of course, but the fresh fruit and veg won't be as lovely as in London, and I will miss that. Also in the UK there is a longer growing season and hence a much wider range of local foods.

It's very quiet here, partly becuase of the snow and partly because it's a suburb. I miss that to an extent as well when I'm in London.

I miss the stars when I'm in London. I won't be seeing any of those here until this blizzard clears, though. There are places in the UK I can see stars.

I very much hope to see the Northern Lights while I'm here...
