Aug. 19th, 2006 07:27 amOkay:
LONDON people who are/were interested in one-off or sample lessons in PIANO, VOICE, AURAL SKILLS, THEORY, TRUMPET, or other brass instruments:
If you're free Wednesday, 23rd August through to and including Tuesday, 29th August, let me know. Let me know what you want to study and how much you've studied it before (if you have particularly advanced theory skills I might have to brush up on my own, or I might ask you for a specific thing you want to work on). I have some busking booked for that period but not much. And busking is hard for me right now, and not a guaranteed income source because tourists and commuters are fickle. I charge £25 for an hour and would think that an hour or possibly 45 minutes is appropriate for a lesson for a grown-up. If you live further than an hour's travel away I might ask you to come to me, or work out some sort of extra payment for travel, because a ratio of two hours of travel to one hour of work is actually pretty crappy.
Reply to this comment, or e-mail ewtikins at livejournal.com , which forwards to something useful, if you want to include contact information that isn't visible to all and sundry. I will get back to you probably tomorrow.
(Unfortunately I cannot schedule lessons for during the year until I have my academic schedule, which will not be until after registration on 5th September. Joy.)
(After Tuesday, 29th August, it will be an all-out attempt to finish my academic work. I might have time then, I might not, but I'll work it out then; I don't currently wish to make any other committments for that time period.)

Date: 2006-08-20 12:55 pm (UTC)Do you know where I live? It's Island Gardens DLR, and then probably easiest to ring me (it's only about 20 seconds away from my house).
What singing have you done in the past? What do you want to sing? How well do you read music? Anything in particular you want to work on?

Date: 2006-08-20 01:03 pm (UTC)I'll ring you from Island Gardens DLR, if that's OK, since my sense of direction is non-existent. If something horrible happens to one of our phones, could you meet me at the station at 4? (Though that shouldn't be necessary.)
I've done mainly choral singing, at school and university and so on, and have had no vocal training. Reading music is easy, sight-singing is harder :) but I'm much better at using the sheet music once I've heard it played/sung once or twice. Mainly I'm interested in getting some ideas about technique, since it's very difficult for me to judge what I sound like. I realise that's a bit waffly, so do ask for more details.
