Any Londoners have recommendations for a good optician?

For actually getting new glasses I will go to the place I went to last time, in Enfield, because they are competent and pleasant. I may go to them for the exam as well but if anyone knows of anyone particularly good elsewhere, do let me know.

I dislike playing lottery with any aspect of my health, and I do actually get to choose which optician to go to, so I may as well have a good look.

I refuse to enter any branch of Vision Express due to what happened last time (they left me with no glasses and no sales adviser for an hour, then tried to sell me expensive designer frames that I had already said were way out of my price range).

I used to go to panoptica in Muswell Hill, and they were generally pretty helpful, but I don't have enough frequent contact with opticians to be able to say they're wonderful, and worth straying across north London for...

I buy my frames online from Glasses Direct now, the service is good and prices great!

I've used branches of Specsavers (in different bits of the country) annually since I was about 11 and the service always seem reasonable. I don't know enough about opticians to know who is good and who isn't, just that I go to optician, they prescribe me with slightly different glasses each year, I buy glasses and can see properly.

Once you have your prescription its worth buying a cheap pair online for emergencies.. they're sub £20 if you looks around :)

I also need new glasses, since the pair I'm wearing are maybe 3 years old and are starting to cause eyestrain. This will entail getting someone I trust to go with me to help pick frames out, since I am more or less blind without them.

I used to do that. Years of wearing glasses that someone else thought suited me.
Then I discovered Specsavers. Most (probably all) branches have a digital camera on the wall, which allows you to look at up to 4 pairs of glasses at any one time. And the assistants tend to be perfectly happy to stand there and press buttons because I can't see them. Finally I am wearing glasses that I have chosen :)

come in and seee how good we are
